WOMEN FASHION POWER

WOMEN FASHION POWER WOMEN FASHION POWER WOMEN FASHION POWER WOMEN FASHION POWER.

NOT A MULTIPLE CHOICE.

'fashion is POWER, power to express yourself and power to change the world'
Livia firth

You may have seen the following tube poster in and around london:

This poster is advertising the exhibition at The Design Museum.

'GERMAINE GREER' author of 'THE FEMALE EUNUCH' ====== A MUST READ.

and WOW this exhibition is as powerful as it's typography and slogan.

A collective of women being empowered by FASHION and all it encompasses.

The exhibition space is designed by one of the most powerful women in Architecture: ZAHA HADID.
What a woman.

The exhibition features the exploration and journey of women's fashion and developments whilst contextualising this alongside a still catwalk of female representation mannequins in which are wearing selected women's ensembles of dress.

These women's identities are showcased entwined with aesthetic and power. We learn of their executive positions powerful qualities and achievements in coherence with fashion and it's relevance and importance in empowerment.  The women include some of my own personal hero's:

Dame Vivienne Westwood: Designer
Livia Firth : Creative director of eco age
Dame Zaha Hadid: Architect
Camila Batmanghelidjh: Founder and Director of Kids Company

Aswell as CEO's, directors, designers and directors.

The design layout by ZAHA HADID takes you on an adventure where the mirrored shards and ceilings force you to deconstruct your own identity and make comparisons between yourself and the women of different era's surrounding you.

One of my FAVOURITE film makers and directors: RUTH HOGBEN has contributed a film installation on various screens which;

'takes the fashion and removes it from the context of the body. It allows the viewer to focus on what these women wear and the importance of the advice they give, rather than how their figure looks in their clothes. Fashion is not a frivolity, it is an armour. It should be used to elevate rather than disguise oneself.' - Ruth Hogben

Here are some of my favourite images from the exhibition, I hope they inspire you...
